The numbers surrounding Captain Marvel are certainly impressive. In just three weeks, the film surpassed a whopping $900 million in ticket sales. Per Variety, that places Captain Marvel within the top 10 biggest comic book film releases of all time. However, the human element is even more compelling than the statistics: Brie Larson is enjoying her well-earned moment in the sun as the badass hero at the center of a mega-franchise, but she’s using this attention to shed light on up-and-coming female photographers. How cool is that?
Using Instagram, Larson hand-selected local female photographers to do shoots at different stops on the Captain Marvel press tour. Who What Wear’s exclusive images were shot by NYC-based photographer Cheril Sanchez, whose website reads, “The female is the protagonist”—so it’s not hard to see why Larson thought she’d be perfect for the press tour. The Dominican Republic–born and Bronx-raised photographer shot Larson wearing Isabel Marant’s impossibly cool Tundra Denim Jumpsuit ($825), and we’re thoroughly obsessed with the images. Scroll down to see the photos and read our exclusive interview with Larson about the inspiring initiative, her favorite red carpet look from the press tour, and more.
