18-Year-Old Gets Vaccinated Against Parents’ Wishes After Advice From Reddit

An 18-year-old in Ohio recently defied the wishes of his parents and took his health into his own hands by getting vaccinated.

In a now-viral Reddit post, Ethan Lindenberger explained that his parents believe “vaccines are some kind of government scheme.”

He told the social media community that although his mother was angry at his decision, it was something he needed to do.

Lindenberger said Monday on Fox & Friends that his mother believes vaccines cause side effects like autism and brain damage, but he received five vaccines after getting information at his local Public Health Department.

“I tried to give her as much evidence as I had and it hasn’t gotten across yet, but hoping that eventually it does,” he said.

Lindenberger also said that his 16-year-old brother wants to get vaccinated like him, but must wait until he legally can do so independently at the age of 18.

He also said that since getting vaccinated, he and his mother have spoken about their opposing views.

“This issue is more important than accidentally hurting someone’s feelings for just disagreeing with them,” he said. “And reaffirming that encouragement that I love her has allowed me to do that and pursue this story publicly.”
